We're back...! 2010-01-17 21:22, flagga Seba
A big thank you to our most passionate admin Seba! He spend way too many hours today fixing the website and the forum! He's also extremely active in the modding department and more or less a one-man-admin team lately. Definitely not normal tap water coming out of the pipes in Finland...

I thought he deserved some appreciation for all his behind the scenes work!

What i wanted to say, the forum is back online @ board.ghostleague.net

----------

As you can see we're back again, but we still have some work to do before everything is back to normal.

We restored the last backup of Ghostleague we had, dated 17th of december 2009. This means a couple of matches (including the replays) have to be reported again. (between the 17th of December and the day of the crash, which was the 5th of January 2010)

You'll notice all replays that were uploaded by our users aren't working anymore. Only the ones that were linked to off site locations such as VEGA's website are still working. We still have all the replays uploaded before the 17th of December 2010, so luckily we didn't lose a lot of data. We'll try to fix the replays as soon as possible! We'll keep you updated on this!

Right now we're checking the website out and fixing all problems and bugs we encounter. It's quite likely we'll miss a few, so please contact us at webmaster@ghostleague.net if you notice one we didn't fix yet!

Back to work now!

Thanks for your patience, and welcome back!

Remove enemies form C.M. 2010-01-02 17:15, flagga Seba

If we'd remove enemy markers from command map - so that you werent able to see any red dots there? Not saying we'd do that now or even plan it, but it could be done really easily. For instance in future if people would like that idea.

For sure that thing would change GR gaming a lot. But would it be too much of a change there? There's a poll running to see some common opinions on this.

How it would most likely effect multiplayer gaming:

- Some maps it would slow down over all gaming speed, for some it would increase it (cities and dense bush maps)
- Your gaming wouldnt be concentraded to watching command map all the time, instead you'd be forced to think different your location and visibility issues
- Sneaking behind enemy lines might get easier

Free comments and opinions on this subject is welcome!

POLL QUESTION - Explanation

Keep enemy markers (red diamonds) at command map, like it is now and been since launch of Ghost Recon. By answering YES you'd like to keep it this way, answering NO you'd like to have them removed.

Bug abuse 2009-12-29 19:03, flagga ben
Lately we had a couple of cases of bug abuse; mainly tiptoes and quickstands.

There are many different types of tiptoes, some are condoned (visible) and others are not (for the most part invisible). The tiptoe case involved a fairly new (1-2 year old) tiptoe where you can elevate your view with a little trick while changing from crouched to standup position. It's easy to spot in replays, although the players in question probably don't think so.

The quickstand movement is in our gray area. You can skip the whole standup animation with a little trick. As for the consequences or penalties: it really depends on the situation and consequences for the round or match. We realize it's part of the game for many players since 2003/2004, but please also realize that one day you might lose an important match because of a crucial kill you managed to make with the help of the quickstand movement. It might be convenient and easy, but it wasn't meant to be a movement in the game.

I also want to add a quick note about warping in general. It isn't banned in this league, like any other league out there. There are some different kinds of warping:
- A quick left/right strafe to check if someone is watching your position, like a corner or rock you're hiding behind (more or less baiting the other team)
- Running in a zigzagging way instead of a straight line (avoiding being an easy target)
- Constantly moving around is sometimes also seen as warping. Some players are into overdrive when matching and constantly peek left and right of the rock they're standing behind off.
- The most obviously case of warp is what is sometimes called "sniper dance" or "lag dance". In this case a player creates so many movements for the server/GR engine to process that it extrapolates his position all over the place. The engine "guesses" where his/ger next position is, and since he is moving all over the place it sometimes ends up showing the player movement around his spot left and right at extreme speeds.
Is it bug abuse or simply "dodging"? Impossible to prove for us! But we count on this community to do the right thing!

So far this lead to two warnings to two different teams. We hope the two teams involved will change their habits and don't force us to penalize them! Obviously this news posts also serves as a warning to everyone else!

If a team or person wants more information regarding these bugs, please contact one of the admins. I understand many of you are not familiar with these things. We'll try to explain some things better to you through private messages, emails or instant messaging.
